William J. Kelly —
CEO and Co-Founder
William is co-founder and has served as CEO for Learning.com since 1999.
In 1996 he was co-founder and Executive Vice President of Sapient Health
Network, Inc., a pioneer in developing online health-oriented communities
for consumers. When Sapient was acquired by WebMD, William served as its
Vice President of Commerce. He has more than a decade of experience helping
to nurture the concept of online communities and user generated value, and
is leading Learning.com to apply online community development in K-12
education. William received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young
University and his master’s degree in business from Harvard Business School.
A Portland native and resident, he has served on the boards and as a
volunteer for numerous community organizations, including education, arts,
and youth services groups. He is currently on the board of the Portland
Schools Foundation. He and his wife have four school-aged children. |

Barclay Burns, Ph.D.
— Co-Founder
Barclay received his Ph.D. in instructional psychology and technology from
Brigham Young University. He has seven years' experience teaching in a
public high school where he founded the "Community Bound" integrated
education program. This program exposed high school students to real world
applications of their learning and successfully solicited corporate
sponsorship of innovative programs and trips, such as two trips to Romania
to paint orphanages. Barclay has also worked on the development of BYU's
extensive online distance learning applications for high school students,
which includes the delivery of curriculum and grades to students and parents
over the Internet. Barclay was most recently in a post-doctoral program in
Internet Strategy at the University of Cambridge in England where he taught
and researched at the Judge Institute of Management. |

Candace Petersen, Ph.D.
— President/COO
Candace was most recently vice president and chief strategy officer for
InFocus Corporation, a worldwide leader in the projection market. In that
role she was responsible for developing and implementing the InFocus
strategic plan to pursue growth opportunities in the education market. She
has nearly three decades of business experience in high tech and industrial
companies, and has held various management positions in corporate strategy,
business analysis and marketing, including corporate economist for IBM.
Candace, who holds a doctorate in Systems Science from Portland State
University, was also a founding partner of Petersen & Prusia, a marketing
research and consulting firm for advanced display and emerging high-tech
industries, and has for 10 years taught as an assistant and adjunct
professor in PSU's School of Business. |

Jim Kuhr — VP
Marketing and Product Development
Jim has served in key management roles for Microsoft, developing products
and leading multiple teams for Microsoft's education initiatives, and for
Apple, including managing and developing Apple's first K-12 Internet
solution and launching additional Apple products. Jim also has had a
successful consulting business providing firms with expert product
development, forward-thinking positioning strategies and marketing
initiatives, and supporting companies to be at their most competitive. |

Mark Tullis — VP
Strategic Relations
For the past several years Mark has worked in business development roles for
technology companies including MyFamily.com, Knowlix Corporation, Open
Market Inc., and Folio Inc. Mark received his MALD from the Fletcher School
of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and undergraduate degrees from
Brigham Young University.

Clark Holmes — VP
Finance and Administration
Clark has experience in financial management of small start-ups to billion
dollar companies. He joined Learning.com from Xerox where he was manager of
financial reporting and systems in the office products division. Prior to
Xerox, Clark was corporate controller for Card Capture Services, where he
played a leadership role in developing processes and systems for their rapid
growth. Clark has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Portland State
University. |

Steve Gardner — VP
Sales
Before joining Learning.com, Steve was President & CEO of Apta Software, a
developer and provider of an online financial and human resources management
solutions for K-12 school districts. Steve was the Vice President of
Instructional Solutions for NCS Learn, a business of Pearson Education,
where he was responsible for all marketing, product strategy and business
development for a suite of instructional products used by more than 20,000
schools around the world. Steve was also the Vice President of Marketing &
Sales for NovaNET Learning. Steve was also an international strategic
management consultant for Bain & Company and has extensive experience with
technology based enterprises. Steve has a bachelor’s degree from Williams
College and master’s degree from the Wharton School of Business. |
